First, the news on the Norway Cup : Thanks in part to a Unicef donation but mostly due to their own hard work and determination the Kamapala Junior Team are on their way to Norway in just over 2 weeks time! BUT they are still 4 airfares short of the the total funds needed, if they don’t raise it there are going to be some disappointed kids out there…  Now this is a supporters’ blog and not a fundraising site, but in case you feel inclined to help out you can do so using the paypal button on the KJT’s own website here

Secondly, I went to Kampala and met up with my friends at the KJT for the first time (but not the last)! More pics and a couple of vids to come, but for now here are 2 of my favourites :

Marcey is one of the stars of the Girls’ Team, she is also the pen-friend of one of my kids. She lives in a tiny little house in the Kisenyi slum – no running water, no sanitation, no electricity – with her Mum and numerous brothers and sisters. Meeting her was one of the highlights of my visit, she’s a great kid who wants to be a Midwife when she grows up, she also has potential as a TV reporter as you will see later when I get around to uploading the vids! Here she is outside her house – she is the tallest, in the center of the doorway.

And here are some of the boys who live with Coach Kabugo in an even smaller house in the heart of Kisenyi.

And here am I with Kabugo’s daughter, future captain of the Ugandan Women’s Football Team!

Recently my two youngsters organised a raffle at a local community event here in Llanfairfechan, raising money for the Dream for the KJTeam fund. Here they are with the Manchester United shirt generously donated to the cause by SoccerPro . Thanks to the girls, to Trevor and SoccerPro, and to all the people who bought tickets !

The KJT have been invited to attend the Norway Cup in 2009, subject to sponsors being found in time. How great it would be if some of us could meet up there to cheer them on!

(Apologies for those who read this post earlier, when I wrote that the team were invited to the Gothia Cup in Sweden – my mistake, it is the Norway Cup)
